Former Singer, Husband Dead After Domestic Disturbance

"THOUSAND OAKS, CA — After shooting and killing his wife, a Thousand Oaks man took his own life Oct. 3 inside the couple’s Sunset Hills home, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner ’s Office and the Thousand Oaks Police Department.

"That evening around 5:10 p.m., TOPD officers responding to a disturbance call to the couple’s home on 1677 Calle Rochelle found the bodies of Michael Seibert, 66, and his wife, Priscilla Coolidge, 73.

"Both Coolidge and Seibert died from gunshot wounds, said James Baroni of the medical examiner’s office.

"The examiner has ruled the deaths a suicide and homicide respectively, he said.

"The disturbance report was called in by a member of Coolidge and Seibert’s family, said Capt. Don Aguilar, media relations officer for the sheriff’s department.

"`We only knew there was a disturbance. We didn’t know what was going on when we went in. It was a tough one to start off on and it took us a while, using our investigative tools to piece together what we think happened,` Aguilar said.

"The sheriff’s captain confirmed TOPD had been summoned to the residence for a disturbance the day before the fatal events, but the nature of that call has not been released.

"Coolidge was a singer who, in the 1970s, released two solo albums while married to her first husband—musician, songwriter and record producer Booker T. Jones. She was named Billboard Magazine’s best female vocalist two years running.

"She later performed and recorded with her Grammy-awardwinning sister, Rita Coolidge, and daughter, Laura Satterfield, as the Native American trio Walela. Rita Coolidge is best known for her hit “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.”

"From 1981 to 1984, Priscilla Coolidge was married to Ed Bradley from CBS’ 60 Minutes.

"Information on Seibert wasn’t immediately available."
