Shots Heard During 911 Call

"LAKELAND, FL — Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide detectives are conducting a death investigation at 6250 Cornerstone Drive in Lakeland.

"A spokesperson says the deaths appear to be a murder/suicide. The victims are 45-year-old James `Kevin` Denny, a Hardee County official, and his wife 41-year-old Jennifer Denny.

"Deputies arrived on scene around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday after a suspicious 911 call from Denny in which gunshots were heard with the call still in process.

"When they arrived they found the victims inside the home, deceased in the bedroom. It's believed Kevin Denny shot his wife then turned the gun on himself.

"This all happened with the couple's 10-year-old daughter in the home. The girl was extremely upset crying when deputies arrived on scene, telling them her parents' bedroom door was locked. The girl will likely be placed with grandparents who live in the area.

"Deputies say there are no previous calls to the home, which they have rented the past couple of years.

"Kevin Denny is the Director of Planning for Hardee County.

"The investigation is ongoing."
